Initially, a rod with mass of 20, your hand is located at it\'s center of gravity.
So you only need to apply 10+10=20 upward force to hold the rod.
Drag your hand to other location horizontally and you will need to apply much more forces to the rod to hold it in static equilibrium.
The sum of those two forces much balanced with the weight of the rod.
And the sum of the torques need to be zero in order to have static equilibrium condition.
